TWR Africa Radio Event 'Shines' Bright
Article written by Jon Hill
Some refer to TWR Africa's annual Shine event as a fundraiser, but it's a lot more than that.
The third edition of Shine took place Aug. 24-28 and once again was a time of live and prerecorded special programming, of celebration for how the Lord has blessed gospel broadcasting in sub-Saharan Africa, of sharing and prayer by both listeners and on-air guests, and of mutual encouragement throughout this ministry. And yes, the fundraising portion also was important, with more than 130,000 rand (over US$7,800) donated.
Giving Hope to a world in need
SHINE 2020 - 24-28 AUGUST 2020
Matthew’s gospel records a beautiful truth which Jesus shared with His disciples, namely that by shining their light before others, they give glory to God! (Matt 5:16).
How wonderful is the thought that our witness glorifies our Father! This is what ultimately lies behind TWR’s motivation to host the annual Shine initiative – we wish to see God glorified!
This year’s Shine annual fundraising event carries the theme “Giving Hope”.
TWR provides alternative for spiritual care during Covid-19
Written by Seth Dotson, Journalist Summer Intern
While any reader in 2020 is undoubtedly familiar with the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated lockdowns from personal experience, each country has dealt with the virus in a different way, and how the virus has affected the people of any given country depends largely on what constitutes the standard way of life in that particular country.
In a majority of countries, efforts to halt the spreading of the virus placed a temporary hold on many day-to-day public activities in an effort to curb crowds and close proximity social interactions known to exacerbate the spread of viruses. Often falling among such activities is weekly church attendance.
The Safest Place is in God's Will

Today, we have the opportunity to hear from Zachary, TWR Canada’s newest missionary intern who is currently serving in Eswatini. Zachary is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the University of Winnipeg. He has a love for patterns and has been fascinated by math since he was young.
Why did Zachary decide to go on mission to Africa? One of the first verses God led Zachary to as a child was Habakkuk 1:5 which says, “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told." (ESV) Zachary memorized the verse when he was young and continues to return to it and learn from it.
