"Christ alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone, Grace alone, to the glory of God alone."
These are the 'Five Solas': The Latin phrases adopted during the Reformation some 500 years ago, to summarize the Reformers' theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity. Professor Martin Luther's key insight that helped triggrer the Reformation, namely that christians attain salvation only by the grace of God, is what we refer to as justication by faith alone.
This then what lies behind the build-up towards the major worldwide commemoration and celebration of the Reformation on 31 October 2017. The Reformation was primarily about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was then, but so it is now! The task of Reformation never ends, for every person, in every generation, needs to hear that Christ alone saves from sin and death, those who repent and believe-John 3:16.
Ingrid Heinzelmaier teams up with a distinguished guest, Prof Martin Luther, in the feature article of this edition of update to share their mutual hunger after the justication which God alone can give.
Join me along with many others on October 31st, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, to pause and praise God for the reviving, through the Reformation, the irrevocable fundamental truths which we hold to- Christ alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone, Grace alone, to the glory of God alone.
