When a statistic about suicide rates in a Thailand province weighed heavy on his heart, this man took to the airwaves to try to do something about it.
Here’s his story:
"In the past, I heard that a nearby province had the highest percentage of people committing suicide for two years in a row. I wondered why this small province, which has kind and friendly people with good concern for others and not much pressure, should have so many people committing suicide.

"I am 9 years old. All of my family members are Christians, and my parents are pastors in my village church. I used to be very proud and greedy. I didn’t obey my parents or respect the elderly. My experience in Sunday school was bad as I was always bullied. Since then, I refused to attend Sunday school. But God had a wonderful plan for me.
"One day, a friend from Sunday school introduced me to the programme Balbatika, and she encouraged me to listen to it. But I paid her no attention. However, about four months later, I met one of the TWR Nepal staff members, who motivated me to listen to the radio programme, highlighting its advantages to me. At that very moment, I was touched by her words and started listening from that day onward.

"Hello, Trans World Radio. Grace and peace!
"I have been a listener since I was a child because my parents taught me to love this radio station. I would help my father answer the lessons in the Bible courses. …
"How many memories!!! I still like Thru the Bible. Currently it is easier to hear Trans World Radio. [Back then] my father woke us at dawn to listen because it was the only time that it tuned in well in our city. It was so good waking up, even if very early and still dark, to hear the word of God and beautiful hymns.

TWR’s primary mission is to proclaim the gospel, but its holistic approach to ministry also includes a commitment to help build leadership skills in areas where such training is lacking.
Though much of the information provided over the airwaves or in digital format is geared toward church leaders and pastors, programmes such as Tools for Wise Leadership also include lessons that help Christians play important roles in their wider communities.
TWR Country Focus: North Korea
Because they are so rare, messages from listeners in North Korea serve as great encouragement for the TWR Korea ministry team.
TWR’s national partner based in South Korea reaches out to the north, sometimes referred to as “the hermit kingdom” because of its reclusiveness on the world stage, with programmes such as Gospel Train for Children and Let’s Talk About Something. News reports say North Koreans are not allowed to listen to foreign broadcasts, and radios are fix-tuned to government stations.
