Bohpa is nearly 60 years old and leads a house church in Cambodia. Each week, she leads the 20 or so people who come together to worship God. This sister in Christ has a passion for the unreached, a passion that has led her behind bars – but not in the conventional sense of the word....
“Once a month, I go to the local prison to minister to the prisoners,” she explains. “There are 20 big rooms there, and each room has more than 15 prisoners living in it. That’s more than 300 people in there who really need to hear God’s Word.”
Some of the prisoners have responded to her visits and her sharing, but she wants to do so much more with her limited visiting time.
Most of the prisoners are illiterate or have limited formal education. Perhaps as for many Cambodians facing similar situations, education was a luxury that they could ill afford.
For them, the best way to get to know God’s Word is to hear it.
TWR Cambodia worked with Bohpa and gave her access to one of our portable MegaVoice units. Preloaded with Stories of the Potter, a Khmer-language program produced by TWR Cambodia for oral learners, this audio player speaks Jesus’ promises of life, redemption and salvation to the incarcerated. It also gives instruction on biblical values and behavior so that the listeners can apply these to their lives.
“I take the MegaVoice with me so that they can listen,” Bohpa says. “It is the best tool to help me evangelize, and even their leader tells me so. I pray to the Lord that he will provide more of this kind of tool so more can do the work of his Kingdom!”
