VOC 2 picFor 23 years, since its first broadcast in 1995, the Voice of the Church (VOC), National Partner of TWR in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), founded an FM radio station and has been hosting 85% of its programmes in the isiSwati language and 15% programmes in English. With the recent launch of the VOC2 English channel, non-isiSwati speakers will now also be able to listen to and enjoy the station’s programmes.

About 200 people, including Eswatini’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Paul Dlamini; Minister of Home Affairs, Ms Princess Tsandzile, some members of the Council of Churches and pastors from the Conference of Churches attended the launch on the 22nd of June. VOC National Director Reverend Zachariah Mthethwa, said the launch is a result of people’s desire. He said people interested in English sermons requested the station to broadcast in English language as well. That inspired him to launch the English channel, VOC2, which is now operational.

VOC has gained momentum and is respected by the government and the entire country of Eswatini. It is a strategic organisation to help people to experience the kingdom of God. To the elderly who cannot walk to attend church services, as well as to other listeners, VOC has become a church. With only one transmitter stationed in Manzini, it began its transmission, and over the years developed to broadcasting through five transmitters (95, 96, 97, 97.1,101 MHz). VOC preaches the gospel through various programmes produced for local and international churches to preach the Good News. Today, the transmitter covers up to 2.8 million potential listeners in Eswatini as well as parts of South Africa and Mozambique.

As a non-profit national Christian radio station, VOC lives by the grace of God. According to Rev Mthethwa, monthly offers and advertising have financially sustained the station. Despite financial challenges, he says the purpose for VOC is to become a platform to serve God’s divine purpose - a pulpit for Africa and the whole world.
