The TWR transmitter in Benin is located in one of the poorest countries in Africa. Geographically, Benin sits on the southern edge of the Sahara desert and food shortages are common. The people there practice subsistence farming, and a hard year has long-reaching consequences. TWR owns a large parcel of land in Benin, and only a small portion of it is used for the transmitter. The staff in Benin can't ignore the needs of the people around them, and have created some innovative means to help.

TWR Hosts Nutrition Workshop and Medical Outreach in Mocuba, Mozambique

Over the past few years TWR, together with the Foundations for Farming organisation and other partners in Africa, has broadcast a series of conservation farming audio programmes. The programmes have been used across several media platforms in Africa to help ensure food security for communities and income generation for families.

The farming of crops and raising of animals have been identified by TWR as a strategic means for poverty eradication in Mozambique. This programme incorporates farming from God's perspective and proven farming methods to address the issue of food insecurity and stewardship.

Association of Christian Media Conference Inspires Christians Media to Claim Culture

TWR's Anthony Barkhuizen, the Broadcast Centre Manager at the TWR Africa Regional Office, recently attended the annual Association of Christian Media (ACM) conference that was held in June in Cape Town. The conference seeks to inspire and encourage Christian media workers in South Africa and the broader African continent.

"We as Christian media should set the tone and culture of society through our programming and media activities so that the Christian culture is assimilated as the prevailing culture of our times," said Anthony Barkhuizen.
