Eritrea is on the east coast of Africa with Sudan on its left and Ethiopia on its right. A short boat ride over the Red Sea will take you to Saudi Arabia or Yemen, depending whether you aim to the left or to the right. It's a country of 5 million people, with just under half of those people being non-Christians.1 One day, an Eritrean was persuaded by his children to tune into TWR. The rest is personal-salvation history! Here's his story:
It is through the radio ministry that I came to learn what a sincere Christian life is. I have been blessed with a new hope, new life, new understanding and new Christian friends.
"I am 36 years old and a father of two. I used to go to church on some special occasions, like Christmas and for some ceremonies, such as weddings and baptisms. But every week I sent my two little children to attend Sunday school classes. A concerned woman from the neighbourhood came every Sunday morning to take the kids with her own children. When they came back from Sunday school, instructed by their teachers, they tried to brief us on what they had studied, but we did not pay much attention to what they had to say.
"One Sunday they came home with a flyer containing information about the radio ministry. They insisted we turn on the radio, search for the station and listen. They pleaded earnestly with us and finally we accepted their request. Following the instructions on the flyer, I searched for the station and after a while I found it.
"I did it simply to obey my children and make them happy. I listened without any intentions or interest, but because of my children I kept listening. Gradually my interest began to develop. To my surprise, the words in the Bible lessons started to work in my life, and I began to experience a change inside me. I kept listening and began to read the Bible references and then I started going to church with my children! This is the wonderful way God worked in my life, I have experienced a great deal of change I never thought possible before.
"God has extended His mercy and opened a way of life to me, through my little ones.
Therefore, I am sharing my experiences with others so they will be alert and watchful - God is speaking through different ways, ways that you may not expect. The Lord is saying "Here I am. I stand at the door and knock. If any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." Rev. 3:20
May God bless the radio ministry and give His servants the strength. May God continue to reach into the homes of people in Eritrea through our radio ministry!"
