Fishers of Men

If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime. Or, in our case: If you give a radio station a satellite dish, they'll have a signal until it breaks down. If you teach them how to install satellite dishes, they'll have a signal for a lifetime.

In May 2010 a team from TWR-Benin, along with two satellite experts from Canada, went to Burkina Faso to do something tremendous. They installed seven satellite dishes at seven different FM stations in 12 days, and in-between they trained 18 people on how to install satellite dishes. Not only was the reach extended, but people were given new skills to keep extending the reach.

The training took place in the cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, with six and 12 participants respectively. The participants were lively, motivated and curious to discover the mysterious world of satellites. After their training, they were given the opportunity to practice what they learnt by splitting up into teams and installing the seven satellite receivers and dishes. Hence, the training allowed the team to achieve much more in a shorter span of time.

Furthermore, several technicians from the TWR team in Benin went to Burkina Faso. They were able to attend the training too and gain practical experience through the installations. This is a huge gain for the Benin national team - nationals are being equipped to move the work forward.

So there are now seven more FM daily broadcasts of Thru the Bible in West Africa. That's the deal - we'll install a satellite dish for free, if you agree to broadcast Thru the Bible, which is a thirty-minute per day, five-year exposition of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. This programme is affecting people all over the world. One listener in Kenya says, "It's been a solid foundation in my faith that has helped me to stand and be firm ... " Now we wait with anticipation to hear what listeners will have to say in Burkina Faso. Stations can broadcast more programmes if they want to, and some are indeed enquiring about doing just that.

Please pray for these seven FM stations. Ask God to use their reach to change lives through the TWR programmes. Also pray for the satellite installation initiative - pray that God would provide the resources we need to continue creatively distributing the gospel to Africa.
