TWR International Director for Africa, Dr. Emmanuel Mbennah, Acting Area Director for Southern Africa, Bobo Gomes Co, and Acting National Director for TWR-Zimbabwe, David Rittenhouse, travelled to Harare on Friday, 25 September for the inauguration of the new board.
The three met with the new board for an orientation session on Saturday afternoon. The group discussed the concept of partnership and its importance in the effectiveness of TWR's ministry in the country. "The role of the board is to manage the mission of TWR in Zimbabwe," says Dr. Mbennah. "It is to provide a framework, to maintain an environment necessary for the mission and to be custodians of the ministry."
The inauguration was held at Southside Evangelical Church on Sunday, 27 September. Dr. Mbennah preached on the Great Commission and its implications for the life and ministry of the Church. He then commissioned the board and handed the five members their letters of appointment. Each board member also received a framed copy of TWR's vision statement as a constant reminder of why they are part of the board.
The Bishop of the Evangelical Church in Zimbabwe led a time of prayer and prayed for unity and grace for the board members. The Bishop is also in charge of the church in Mozambique that was planted as a result of TWR's programmes.
Dr. Mbennah was encouraged by this visit to Zimbabwe. He found that the staff of TWR-Zimbabwe are very committed to their ministry and that the national partner is open to learn and discuss, and keen to do its part to contribute to the ministry of TWR as a whole.
He says, "I see potential. TWR-Zimbabwe will rise again and will become a powerful ministry. Many lives will be touched." He also urges continued prayer for Zimbabwe.
Prayer items include:
- the need for a National Director
- the need for an Audience Relations person
- the need for a full-time producer
