Filling the God Shaped Vacuum in WA Teenagers

The French mathematician, Blaise Pascal once wrote, "There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man."1 As teenagers at a school in Côte d'Ivoire search to fill this vacuum, a TWR board member, who is also a teacher at the school, is making sure they discover that only God fits!

This teacher encourages pupils, fellow teachers and school staff to listen to TWR's programmes on FM through the Frequence Vie radio station, and on AM (medium wave) through the Benin station. As a result many have tuned in and subsequently given their lives to Jesus.

Following up these commitments with discipleship material is always a challenge. That is until TWR, in partnership with Cross Currents International Ministries (CCIM), had the opportunity to send a parcel of the CCIM books, Your Quest for God and Food for Faith to the school.

These books provide foundational teaching for believers to grow in their faith.  Brent Bartlett, Marketing and Communications Director of the TWR Africa Regional Office, says, “I am proud that CCIM can be the vehicle our dear Lord uses to reach these children for eternity and snatch them away from the evil one who is just waiting at the school gates to devour them”.

The following two testimonies show the effect the books are already having:
  * One pupil says, "In numerous books that speak of God, I have not found him". This malady persisted until the day he received his copy of Your Quest for God. Through it, he was able to know, "how much God can be near to man". In his simple way he expounded a profound truth - the transcendent God is made immanent in the face of Jesus Christ (cf. 2 Cor. 4:6).

  * In another story, we learn of a scholar in Côte d'Ivoire who was, "not interested in religious things." He was given both CCIM books from a friend. The result was the shattering of misconceptions. He says, "these books gave me another picture of the Christian." Reading these books has propelled him to reconsider his views, and ultimately, his life and eternal destiny.
Teenagers all over the world must navigate a tough trail into adulthood, steering a course through poverty, sickness, broken homes, and religious resistance (just to name a few). They need a map which can give them some check points. TWR's broadcasts and these cherished CCIM books are expounding on the only map worth following: God's Word.
